2001 – 2004
From 2001 – 2004 I held the post of Professor of Medicine, International University of the Health Sciences, St Kitts, WI. I was responsible for developing web-based clinical problem applications, correlating the materials and problems with USMLE objectives and designing and reviewing online student assessments.
1985 – 2001
I set up and ran two private medical clinics in the Algarve, Portugal. I acted as medical advisor to the British Consulate and to the Association of Foreign Property Owners. We were recognised by all major international assistance companies and were the local agents and advisors for the Blood Care Foundation, Alecium Healthcare, Highwaytohealth Inc, and Medex Assistance.
1978 – 1985
Consultant in Clinical Chemistry. Nottingham City Hospital. Direct patient care of seriously ill patients on the Intensive Care Unit, the Burns Unit and on the medical and surgical wards. Standing in for consultant physicians on leave. Research into substrate flow in diabetes, injury and starvation. Evaluation of the efficacy of nutritional support. I played an active part in teaching medicine, biochemistry and statistics to medical students and doctors and participated in formal management training organised by the Trent Regional Health Authority. I set up and was Chairman of the Nottingham Hospitals Computer Users Group.

Intern and Junior Resident posts in London teaching hospitals.
I have held the posts of Editor of the British Journal of Parenteral Therapy, and Guest Editor of the Journal of Drug Development. I served on the Editorial Boards of the British Journal of Clinical Practice, Clinician, and the Journal of Drug Development. In Portugal, I have been English Language consultant and English Editor to Skin Cancer and Acta Psiquiatria Portuguesa. I have been a referee for the Lancet, the British Medical Journal and Clinical Nutrition. I am on the clinical review boards of Clinical Evidence (BMJ Group) and MedGenMed.
My more recent work includes writing disease and management files for FirstConsult.com (a medical information and decision support website run by Elsevier Science) and various types of reports and documents for OCC Europe and Bioscript Sterling Ltd (Medical communications). I also worked with Medical Text Ltd in preparing and writing detailed evidence-based reports for the Pensions Department of the Ministry of Defence on causation of diseases, on which they base their assessments for awarding war pensions.
I have honed my copywriting skills by attending a course run by Andy Maslen, and I now write and edit the content of websites and communication materials for personal and corporate clients.
I was retained by Abbott Laboratories as adviser to the Director of the UK Patient Care Division and continued to work with several other pharmaceutical companies for some years. My particular areas of expertise were the design and analysis of highly focused cost‑effective clinical trials and analysis of market patterns.
I worked with Dr Frada Eskin (Department of Community Medicine, University of Manchester) as a trainer and consultant on personally-based management courses for senior National Health Service personnel, and advised the NHS Training Authority on strategies for achieving attitude changes in doctors.
I have trained pharmaceutical company personnel in communications and sales skills with Metamorph Medical Training Services Ltd.
I trained as a Corporate and Executive Coach with the Coaching Academy, since which I have coached a Director of an International business magazine, and have been involved in a project to increase the communications efficiency of Microsoft sales engineers. I was commissioned by the Commercial Department of the Department of Health to act as a coach and facilitator to help integrate a new Independent Treatment Centre into a large Trust in the south of England. I am currently training in Multiple Brain Integration Techniques (mBIT).
I now work with Oxford Medical as a trainer on Interview Skills, Communications Skills, and Management training courses for doctors, and also as a trainer to their trainers.
My latest projects are MetaTraining (training workshops for trainers) and Personal Development Plus (advanced workshops and programmes for suitably motivated individuals from the training, educational, therapeutic and corporate sectors who wish to expand their awareness, capabilities and effectiveness in our rapidly changing world).
I have been working with computers and online education since the 1980s.
I have developed many types of online knowledge delivery systems ranging from medical courses for the International University of the Health Sciences (St Kitts, WI) to Leadership and Management programmes with Oxford Medical Training.
From my wide experience of medicine, marketing, (especially internet marketing), website development, and coaching, I can provide attractive, engaging and effective courses, seminars and interactive learning systems.
Recently, I have been using video and live and recorded webinars to introduce people to a number of education and personal development programmes that I have designed.
